ALT Project: Electronic Campus
The Southern Regional Educational Board’s (SREB) Electronic Campus, Advanced Learning Technologies (ALT), and the Institutional Coordinators (IC) of the individual institutions of the University System of Georgia work closely in the promotion and delivery of distance learning in the State of Georgia.
The Electronic Campus is an “electronic marketplace” for online courses, programs, and services. All courses and programs are offered by accredited colleges and universities in the SREB 16 state region and meet the Principles of Good Practice endorsed by the Electronic Campus (EC).
Advanced Learning Technologies serves as the clearinghouse of information about online courses and programs offered through the University System institutions. ALT approves all submissions to the Electronic Campus. ALT also provides support for and coordination of those individuals who are selected as EC Institutional Coordinators.
The Electronic Campus Institutional Coordinator (IC)is the single point-of-contact on each campus that stays informed on all current and developing distance education initiatives at his/her institution. These individuals are a part of the USG advisory committee known as the Regents Administrative Committee on Distance Education. All distance courses and programs considered for the Electronic Campus are reviewed by the IC against the Principles of Good Practice to ensure their quality and consistency before submission to the University System for approval by the State Electronic Campus Coordinator.
Catherine Finnegan is the State Electronic Campus Coordinator for the University System of Georgia and Mary Lou Mudge is the Assistant State Coordinator. The State Coordinator reviews distant delivery courses and programs submitted by the IC to ensure compliance with the Board of Regents External Degree Approval Procedures. Following approval, notification is sent to the Electronic Campus and the IC so that data entry of the courses or programs on the EC may begin.
To complete the circle, the Electronic Campus then supports the IC or their designee with the process of entering their courses and programs. The EC Institutional Data Entry website provides a wealth of information for the specific duties involved in maintaining a presence on the SREB Electronic Campus.
