Interested in Offering Courses for Military Personnel?
- 2006. Thompson, C. Opportunities -Providing Courses for Military Personnel (pdf)
Advanced Learning Technologies and Georgia College hosted a seminar for USG institutions interested in offering “for credit” courses to military personnel. Ms. Carol Thompson, Distance Learning Manager for the Educations Programs Department from the Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support (DANTES), offered the seminar on September 20, 2006 at the OIIT facility in Athens. More information on DANTES can be found at: http://www.dantes.doded.mil/
Due to space limitations, we asked that only two representatives from each institution attend – the institution's RACDE member and one other from a department that either offers, or plans to offer, academic programming for the military.
Among the issues Ms. Thompson addressed were:
1. The variety of opportunities available to provide education to the different branches of the military.
2. A review of "rules of the game" to which each institution should be aware, if they want to offer courses to the military.
3. An explanation of the approval and evaluation processes institutions must undergo to offer face-to-face and/or distance delivered courses to military personnel.
