Study Description:

As part of the GeorgiaVIEW (Georgia Vista Implementation Enterprise Wide), Advanced Learning Technologies (ALT) is conducting a study of current faculty uses, experiences, and expectations regarding course management systems (CMS)

Reports:

2005. Faculty Use of Course Management Systems Survey System Aggregate Report (pdf)

2005. Gastfriend, H. and Finnegan, C. Tracking Faculty Uses of Online Learning Tools: A Statewide Perspective. (pdf)

Study Details :

  1. To collect and analyze pre-implementation data on CMS use among USG faculty.
  2. To use data to inform development of support, services, and training for faculty using Vista.
  3. To use data to inform strategies for encouraging faculty not currently using WebCT Vista to try incorporating some of its functionalities for traditional courses, hybrid courses, and fully online courses.

An online survey has been developed by ALT, based on the Educause Center for Applied Research (ECAR) Faculty Usage of CMS Study conducted by the University of Wisconsin System. Additional questions specifically about the USG have been included. Faculty at USG institutions will be asked to complete the survey before or, in some cases, after their institutional Vista implementations depending upon the stage of deployment at a given institution.

As part of their Vista transition planning, USG institutions were encouraged to invite all full-time and part-time faculty on their campuses, whether or not they are currently using a CMS, to complete the online survey.

The survey closed in June 2005. More than 3,200 faculty responded from 33 of 34 institutions, making it one of the most comprehensive System-wide faculty surveys in history. After the survey closed out for a given institution, ALT prepared an individualized report. The aggregate report has been made public and is available above. Sector-based reports (state universities, two-year colleges, research institutions, etc.) and other analyses have been made available to institutional researchers and administrators within the System.
